Did you know?

Ever had a nasty electric shock when you close the car door having just got out? Why? Well here are examples of typical voltages that are generated Electrostatically in the following conditions:

Electrostatic Voltages

Means of Static Generation 10 to 20% Relative Humidity 65 to 90% Relative Humidity
Walking across carpet 35,000 1,500
Walking over vinyl floor 12,000 250
Working at a bench 6,000 100
Vinyl envelopes for work instructions 7,000 600
Polythene bag picked up from bench 20,000 1,200
Chair padded with polyurethane foam 18,000 1,500

None of us feel the force of an electrostatic charge until it is greater than 3kV in magnitude and ladies can charge to 20kV whilst Gentlemen only charge to 15kV.
